The South Hampton with Paneling is a classic design drawn from the scenic homes of the vacation destination, South Hampton New Hampshire. The durable design and solid construction recall the traditional New England work ethic that has resulted in beautiful crafting for generations. The paneling ensures privacy in a stylish, well-crafted gate that will create a striking entryway. Hinges, J-bolts and barrels are included with each of our cedar gates. You can utilize existing posts/columns, or purchase either the 4 x 4 posts or 8 x 8 cedar fluted columns.
Care
Weathering turns cedar a light grey color. To preserve the warm tones of the wood, it
can be sealed with a UV wood sealer periodically. The gate can also be stained,
painted, or used "as delivered".

Kiln Drying
Kiln drying is the process by which moisture is removed from lumber so that it can be
worked. Wood is a hygroscopic material, meaning it gains and loses moisture according
to the environment, causing its shape to change with humidity. This can be detrimental
to items constructed of wood, so kiln drying is a process developed to reduce that
problem. Wet lumber is loaded into a kiln, and the heat is controlled to prevent
warping or defects as the wood is dried. Kiln drying produces a more reliable, durable
timber product that is also more resistant to fungi and insects, making it great for
outdoor products.

Welding Our gates are welded using traditional stick welding processes.
Also known as shielded metal arc welding, this process consists of using a consumable
electrode coated in flux (a chemical agent - zinc oxide - that removes oxidation from
metals) to create an electric arc for welding. The vapors from the flux create an inert
gas, known as shielding gas, which conducts heat and reduces the voltage required for
welding. This process also creates slag, or melted metal, that protects against
atmospheric contamination of the welded material. The slag must be chipped off, and the
overall process requires a skilled artisan for a properly finished piece. |
Bonding
The cedar is permanently bonded to the welded frame with LP Premium waterproof
polyurethane adhesive, which means the gate will have a high resiliency to harsh
weather elements due to its performance characteristics and resistance to moisture.
With our "Full Frame Double Stacked Impact Point" design, the durability and strength
of the gate will remain uncompromised even after dealing with the rigors of automatic
gate openers. For the cedar exterior, all angled joints are screwed, glued, and then
filled with wood filler. Bungs are used to fill all straight drilled holes. Then angled
and straight holes are sanded to ensure a smooth, seamless finish.

Western Red Cedar
Western Red Cedar is an evergreen tree native to the northwestern United States. While
it is not a true cedar, it does have the aromatic quality typically associated with
cedar. The wood of this tree is excellent for woodworking because it has a tight,
straight grain and few knots, making it easy to work, and offering an unmarred final
product. Because it is highly resistant to decay, it is a popular choice for outdoor
construction, such as with decking, siding, and fencing. It is also attractive enough
for use in instruments, and its light weight and strength make it ideal for guitars.

Steel Steel is one of the most common materials in the world today because
of its inexpensive production cost, reliability, durability, and versatility. It is
used in everything from construction to home appliances to automobiles. It is so
critical to so many industries, in fact, the steelmaking industry is considered to be
an indicator of economic progress. Steel is also the easiest material to recycle, and
it is cheaper to use recycled steel than to mine it from natural sources. We use 11
gauge steel as a frame for our cedar gates because it enhances the strength of our
gates for a secure entryway. |

Each of our
products is crafted
upon the placement of the order, and is shipped directly from
the manufacturer to
you. Delivery typically takes 2-3 months depending on the
complexity of the piece,
the availability of the crafters, and the expediency of the
customs bureau.
During that
time, we will be in
frequent contact with you. Upon the placement of the order, one
quarter of the total
cost is due and you will receive an electronic order
confirmation identifying the
U.S. customer representative who will be monitoring the order.
The next e-mail notification
will be sent when the order is completed and received at our
distribution center;
this notice will contain a picture of your completed gate, and
the rest of the cost
will be due at this time. Upon receipt of the balance, we will
ship the gate and
send you another notice identifying a tracking number for your
convenience.
We very
selectively choose the manufacturers
who produce the gates shown here, and culture a personal
relationship with them.
By providing these products directly from the manufacturers, we
are able to offer
you lower prices since there are no interim business or dealer
